Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Take out about 20 frozen dumplings from the freezer. This amount is good for about 4 people to enjoy a hearty meal. Feel free to mix and match different types of dumplings according to your preference.
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables for the hot pot. Cut 7 cabbage leaves into bite-sized pieces. Slice 1/2 zucchini into half-moons, and thinly slice 1/4 onion. Chop 1 Korean green chili pepper and slice 1 large green onion diagonally. If you prefer it spicier, you can add more chili peppers.
Step 3
Make the seasoning sauce, which is key to a delicious mandu jeongol. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 2 Tbsp fish sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 2 Tbsp cooking syrup, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp Dasida (optional), and a pinch of black pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly mixed.
Step 4
Arrange the frozen dumplings around the bottom of the hot pot. Place the prepared vegetables like cabbage, zucchini, and onion in the center. Adding rice cake soup slices will make it even more fulfilling.
Step 5
Pour the prepared seasoning sauce evenly over the vegetables in the center of the pot. This step helps the sauce meld into the vegetables and dumplings.
Step 6
Pour in 1 pack of store-bought beef bone broth. If you don’t have beef bone broth, you can use anchovy-kelp broth for a cleaner taste.
Step 7
Add enough broth to cover the ingredients, but not too much, as this will make the broth more concentrated. Now, turn on the heat and bring it to a boil.
Step 8
Simmer over medium heat for about 30 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and the vegetables are tender. Taste the broth during cooking and add salt or soy sauce if needed to adjust the seasoning. Enjoy your delicious mandu jeongol while it’s warm! It makes a satisfying meal, especially with a bowl of rice.
