Key Ingredients- 1 slice of sandwich bread
- 1 small egg
- A little barley malt syrup or maple syrup (for drizzling)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
1. Carefully cut a heart shape out of the center of the bread using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or a knife. (Be gentle to avoid breaking the bread. If using a knife, exercise caution for safety.)
Step 2
2. Lightly coat a frying pan with a very thin layer of cooking oil, spreading it evenly with a paper towel. Heat the pan over medium-low heat, then place the bread with the heart cutout onto the pan and toast the first side until golden brown. (Avoid using too much oil, as it can make the toast greasy.)
Step 3
3. Once the first side is lightly toasted, carefully crack the egg directly into the heart-shaped hole in the bread. It’s important to gently place the egg so the yolk doesn’t break.
Step 4
4. Cover the frying pan with a lid and continue to cook over medium-low heat until the egg white is set and the yolk is cooked to your desired consistency (slightly runny is lovely!). This allows the heat to cook the egg evenly from the top.
Step 5
5. When the toast and egg are perfectly cooked, carefully remove the toast from the pan and transfer it to a plate. Drizzle a little barley malt syrup or maple syrup over the top while it’s warm for an extra touch of sweetness and flavor.
