Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare all the ingredients for your delicious Tofu Tteokbokki!
Step 2
Gently press the tofu using paper towels to remove excess water. Then, cut it into bite-sized pieces, similar in size to tteokbokki rice cakes. This step helps the tofu become chewier when stir-fried.
Step 3
Wash the cabbage thoroughly under running water and pat it dry. Shred it into pieces suitable for tteokbokki. Similarly, wash and shred the onion. The natural moisture from the vegetables will add a lovely sweetness and depth to the sauce.
Step 4
Let’s make the flavor-packed sauce! In a bowl, combine the gochujang, minced garlic, sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and black pepper. Add an equal amount of water to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency. Preparing the sauce beforehand makes the cooking process much smoother.
Step 5
Now, let’s get cooking! Heat a frying pan with a suitable amount of cooking oil over high heat. Cooking over high heat helps to bring out the delicious flavors quickly.
Step 6
Carefully add the prepared tofu pieces to the hot frying pan.
Step 7
Pan-fry the tofu until it’s golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges. This process allows the tofu to absorb the sauce beautifully and adds a wonderful chewy texture and nutty flavor.
Step 8
Once the tofu is nicely browned, add the shredded cabbage and onion to the pan.
Step 9
Next, pour in all the delicious sauce you prepared earlier. Stir everything well to ensure the sauce coats all the ingredients evenly.
Step 10
Finally, add enough water to generously cover the ingredients. As the sauce simmers and reduces, it will infuse all the ingredients with its delicious flavor.
Step 11
Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and simmer until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. Your flavorful Tofu Tteokbokki is ready to be enjoyed! Enjoy your meal!
