How to Make Tofu Inari Sushi: A Perfect Diet Food

Healthy and Delicious Tofu Inari Sushi

I wanted to find a creative way to enjoy tofu, known for its health benefits, so I decided to make it into Inari sushi. By using stir-fried tofu instead of rice, the texture is wonderfully soft and doesn’t leave you feeling heavy or bloated after eating. It’s so delicious and satisfying that I’ve made it multiple times using leftover tofu and seasoned fried tofu pouches. This recipe offers a light yet flavorful experience, perfect for a healthy meal.

Ingredients for Tofu Inari Sushi

  • 300g firm tofu
  • 14 seasoned fried tofu pouches (use 7)
  • 1 packet (4g) seasoned vegetable mix (from Inari sushi kit)
  • 1/2 packet sushi vinegar mix (from Inari sushi kit)
  • 3 sheets seasoned seaweed (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, generous amount

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your Inari sushi kit. This typically includes seasoned fried tofu pouches, a seasoned vegetable mix (or seasoned stir-fried bits), and a sushi vinegar mix. You’ll also need 300g of firm tofu for this recipe.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently rinse the block of tofu (300g) under cool running water to clean its surface.

Step 2

Step 3

Place the rinsed tofu into a clean cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. Squeeze firmly with your hands to press out as much water as possible. If you don’t have a bag, a clean kitchen towel works well.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, transfer the squeezed tofu to a frying pan.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat the pan over medium or medium-low heat. Stir and cook the tofu, breaking it up, until any remaining moisture evaporates and the tofu becomes crumbly and slightly dry. This step is crucial for the texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the tofu is crumbly and dry, transfer it to a mixing bowl. Add one packet of the seasoned vegetable mix and half of the sushi vinegar mix from your Inari sushi kit.

Step 6

Step 7

Using a spoon, thoroughly mix the crumbled tofu with the seasoned vegetables and sushi vinegar. Ensure everything is evenly combined. Taste the mixture; if it feels bland, add a tiny pinch of salt. If you prefer a tangier sushi rice flavor, add more of the sushi vinegar mix.

Step 7

Step 8

Prepare the seasoned fried tofu pouches for filling. Wearing disposable gloves, gently squeeze out any excess liquid from each pouch. Be careful not to squeeze too hard, as this can cause the pouches to tear when you open them later.

Step 8

Step 9

Carefully open each seasoned fried tofu pouch. Spoon the prepared tofu mixture into each pouch, pressing gently to fill them adequately. The number of sushi you can make will depend on how much filling you put into each pouch. (Oops, I forgot to take a picture of the finished 7 sushi I made!)

Step 9

Step 10

If using, finely snip the 3 sheets of seasoned seaweed with scissors. This is an optional step but adds extra flavor and texture.

Step 10

Step 11

Finally, sprinkle the finely snipped seasoned seaweed (if using) and a generous amount of sesame seeds over the tofu Inari sushi. Your healthy and delicious Tofu Inari Sushi is now complete!
