Main Ingredients- 1 packet of instant ramen (choose your favorite kind)
- A desired amount of fresh whelks (boiled and prepared)
- About 1/4 onion
- About 1/4 green onion stalk
- A handful of bean sprouts (approx. 50g)
- A small amount of dried seaweed (approx. 5g)
Seasoning & Spices- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 1 Tbsp Cheongyang chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 1 Tbsp Cheongyang chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the whelk meat, cut into bite-sized pieces for a delightful chewy texture. Using pre-boiled and cleaned whelks will make this recipe even easier.
Step 2
Soak the dried seaweed in cold water for about 10 minutes until rehydrated. Rinse it thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water. The seaweed adds a wonderful refreshing taste and umami to the broth.
Step 3
Wash the bean sprouts under running water and drain them in a colander. Slice the onion thinly and cut the green onion diagonally to add aromatic flavor.
Step 4
In a pot with a deep base, heat 2 Tbsp of canola oil and 1 Tbsp of Cheongyang chili powder over low heat, stirring constantly. This step is crucial toasting the chili powder to release its fragrance and deepen its flavor without burning. (Caution: Use low heat and keep stirring to prevent burning.)
Step 5
Once the chili powder is fragrant, add the sliced onion, diagonally cut green onion, and the rehydrated seaweed. Stir-fry together until the onions become translucent.
Step 6
Add the prepared whelk meat and 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic. Stir-fry for about 1 more minute until the garlic is fragrant and the flavors meld together.
Step 7
Pour 550ml of water into the pot with the sautéed ingredients. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling vigorously (bubbling merrily), proceed to the next step.
Step 8
When the water is boiling, add the ramen noodles and the soup base that came with the ramen packet. Stir well to dissolve the soup base, creating a delicious ramen broth.
Step 9
Finally, add the washed bean sprouts to the pot and cook together. The bean sprouts will add a satisfying crunch and enhance the refreshing taste of the broth.
Step 10
Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the noodles are perfectly al dente. Your delicious Hangover Ramen is ready! Enjoy it hot. You can also add an egg or some kimchi on the side if you like.
