Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’m excited to share a fantastic ‘Spicy & Sweet Stir-Fried Squid’ recipe that’s perfect for transforming leftover vegetables from your fridge into a delightful meal. It’s simple, yet guarantees a delicious outcome. Let’s get started!

Step 1

Step 2

First, let’s prepare the vegetables for our stir-fry. Feel free to use any vegetables you have on hand, such as onion, cabbage, and carrots. Slice the onion and cabbage into thick strips, and thinly slice the carrots. Finely chop the green onion, setting aside some for garnish later. If you prefer a spicier kick, thinly slice a chili pepper as well.

Step 2

Step 3

Ensure your squid is cleaned. If you’re cleaning it yourself, remove the internal organs and the quill, then peel off the skin. Cut the cleaned squid into strips about 0.5 cm thick. Cutting them to a similar size as the vegetables will ensure a harmonious blend when cooked.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s make the star of our dish: the sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of gochujang, 2 tablespoons of gochugaru, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix these ingredients well. Add some of the chopped green onion to the sauce and stir again to incorporate.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the sliced squid and all the prepared vegetables into the bowl with the sauce. Now, gently mix everything together with your hands, ensuring the sauce coats the squid and vegetables evenly. Be careful not to over-mix or handle too roughly, as this can make the squid tough.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the sauced squid and vegetables, along with about half a cup (100ml) of water. Stir-fry quickly until the squid turns opaque and starts to glisten. Continue to cook, adjusting the heat as needed, until everything is cooked through. Avoid overcooking, as the squid can become rubbery. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Step 6

Step 7

Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and the reserved green onions. Give it a final quick toss to combine. The fragrant sesame oil adds a wonderful depth of flavor. And there you have it – a delicious, spicy, and sweet stir-fried squid, the perfect rice companion! Serve hot over steamed rice and enjoy.
