  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 6 strips of bacon (using thick-cut bacon will give a richer flavor)
  • 1 large leek (use both white and green parts to maximize leek fragrance)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 60g carrot
  • 2 bowls of cooked rice (if using leftover rice, warm it slightly in the microwave)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the ingredients that will make this fried rice delicious. Finely chop the carrot (60g), onion (1 medium), and leek (1 large). Also, cut the bacon (6 strips) into bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm). If you have any leftover vegetables in your fridge, such as bell peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms, feel free to chop them up and add them for an even more flavorful fried rice.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a deep pan or wok over medium heat. Add about a swirl (1-2 Tbsp) of cooking oil. Once the oil is shimmering, add the chopped leeks first. Sauté them until they become fragrant and release their sweet aroma, creating a flavorful leek oil.

Step 2

Step 3

When the leeks are fragrant and the leek oil is well-infused, it’s time to add the chopped carrots, onions, and bacon to the pan. Stir everything together and sauté until the ingredients are well combined.

Step 3

Step 4

Continue to cook over medium heat until the vegetables soften slightly and the bacon becomes golden brown and crispy, releasing its savory aroma. The rendered bacon fat will mingle with the vegetables, adding even more deliciousness.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, add the star of the show: the cooked rice! Add two generous bowls of warm rice to the pan. Use a spatula to gently mix the rice with the other ingredients, making sure not to mash the rice grains. Stir-fry continuously to prevent sticking and ensure each grain of rice is coated with the flavors.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the rice and ingredients are well combined, drizzle 2 Tbsp of oyster sauce around the edges of the pan. Stir-fry quickly to evenly distribute the sauce. This will add a deep umami flavor and a glossy sheen to the rice.

Step 6

Step 7

Next, add 1 tsp of curry powder to introduce a subtle, warm curry aroma. Stir-fry the rice and ingredients together. This adds a unique depth of flavor to the fried rice. If you enjoy a more pronounced curry taste, feel free to increase the amount of curry powder. For a milder flavor, start with just 1/2 tsp.

Step 7

Step 8

Sprinkle in 2 Tbsp of crushed sesame seeds for a nutty crunch. Using freshly ground sesame seeds will enhance the freshness and flavor. I personally like to mix black and white sesame seeds for added color and aroma. Lightly stir-fry to combine.

Step 8

Step 9

Almost done! Just before turning off the heat, drizzle 1 Tbsp of sesame oil around the pan. Give it a final quick toss to distribute the fragrant sesame oil throughout the fried rice. Adding sesame oil at the end preserves its aroma and enhances the overall flavor.

Step 9

Step 10

Your delicious bacon fried rice, which is always a crowd-pleaser, is now complete! Serve hot and enjoy this simple yet satisfying meal. 🙂
