Main Ingredients- 400g Tteokbokki rice cakes
- 3 Tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the delicious Garlic Oligodang Sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp of minced garlic, 3 Tbsp of oligodang, and 2 Tbsp of soy sauce. Stir well until smooth and no lumps remain. Making the sauce in advance makes it convenient to use immediately when stir-frying the rice cakes.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to stir-fry the rice cakes. If your 400g of tteokbokki rice cakes have been soaked, make sure to drain as much water as possible. Heat a pan, add 3 Tbsp of cooking oil, and once warm, add the drained rice cakes. Instead of high heat, it’s key to cook them slowly over medium-low heat, stirring to prevent sticking. Keep stir-frying until the rice cakes are firm and don’t stick together.
Step 3
As the rice cakes gradually soften and the surface starts to turn lightly golden, pour 2 Tbsp of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. Stir-fry for about 1 minute, coating the rice cakes evenly with the soy sauce. This step adds a wonderful savory depth to the tteokbokki.
Step 4
After seasoning the rice cakes with soy sauce, pour all of the pre-made Garlic Oligodang Sauce into the pan. Tilt the pan or use a spatula to gently mix, ensuring the sauce coats the rice cakes evenly.
Step 5
Finally, stir-fry slowly and thoroughly over medium-low heat until all ingredients are well combined. The sauce will coat the rice cakes with a glossy sheen, and a delicious garlic oil aroma will emerge. Continue stir-frying for about 2-3 minutes, being careful not to let the rice cakes become too hard. Serve warm immediately for a perfectly chewy-on-the-inside, slightly crisp-on-the-outside, sweet and savory Garlic Oil Tteokbokki!
