Introducing a delightful Spam and Tofu Sandwich made with flavorful Spam and soft tofu! This sandwich offers a perfect ‘crispy outside, soft inside’ texture that’s both satisfying and delicious. It’s an ideal quick meal or a unique snack that everyone, from kids to adults, will adore. Let’s make this irresistible recipe together!
Main Ingredients- 1 can Spam (approx. 200g or 340g, depending on preference)
- 1 block firm or pan-frying tofu (approx. 300g)
- 3-4 Tbsp starch powder (potato or corn starch)
- 2 large eggs
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the tofu and Spam. Slice the tofu into approximately 1cm thick pieces. Pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, as this is crucial to prevent them from breaking apart during cooking. Slice the Spam into similar 1cm thick pieces. Try to cut them into uniform sizes for a more appealing sandwich.
Step 2
Now, let’s assemble the sandwich. Layer a slice of tofu, followed by a slice of Spam, and then another slice of tofu on top. This ‘tofu-Spam-tofu’ construction will help keep the ingredients contained and maintain a neat shape.
Step 3
Next, we’ll coat the assembled sandwiches. Lightly dust the entire surface of each sandwich with starch powder. This coating will help the egg wash adhere better and create a wonderfully crispy texture when fried.
Step 4
Dip each starch-coated sandwich into a whisked egg mixture. Ensure the entire sandwich is evenly coated. For enhanced flavor, you can add a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper to the egg wash. Gently shake off any excess egg mixture before frying.
Step 5
It’s time to cook! Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of oil. Carefully place the egg-coated sandwiches into the hot pan. Fry each side until golden brown and crispy. Aim for about 3-4 minutes per side, ensuring all four sides are cooked to perfection. This will result in a sandwich that’s wonderfully crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
