Effortless Air Fryer Hash Browns: Crispy Outside, Tender Inside (Delicious Homemade Hash Potato Recipe)
For all potato lovers out there! Today, we’re making incredibly simple and delicious hash browns using your air fryer and everyday potatoes. This hash potato recipe delivers a delightful crunch on the outside and a soft, comforting interior, perfect as a snack or a satisfying meal.
Ingredients- 2 medium potatoes
- 0.5 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp potato starch
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil (adjust to your preference)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel and thoroughly wash the 2 medium potatoes. Cut one of the potatoes into manageable pieces (e.g., quarters) so it cooks quickly. This piece will be boiled.
Step 2
For the second potato, finely mince or grate it. We’re keeping some of the potato shredded to achieve that signature hash potato texture.
Step 3
Add the cut potato to boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes, or until fork-tender. You’ll know they’re ready when a fork easily pierces through them. Be careful not to overcook, as it can make the mixture too mushy.
Step 4
Drain the boiled potatoes and place them in a bowl. Add about 0.5 tablespoon of unsalted butter to the warm potatoes; this will add richness and help with mashing.
Step 5
Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes completely until smooth. Ensure there are no lumps for the best texture.
Step 6
To the mashed potatoes, add the finely minced/grated potato, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of potato starch. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated. The potato starch acts as a binder, making the mixture easier to shape.
Step 7
Use a spatula or spoon to thoroughly mix the ingredients. Knead the mixture gently until it has a cohesive, dough-like consistency.
Step 8
Take portions of the mixture and flatten them with your hands or shape them into traditional hash brown patties. Aim for a thickness of about 1 cm (around 0.4 inches).
Step 9
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper. Arrange the shaped hash browns on the paper. Drizzle about 2 tablespoons of cooking oil evenly over the top; this is key for achieving that beautiful crispiness.
Step 10
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (356°F). Place the hash browns inside and cook for a total of 25 minutes. You can set the timer for the full 25 minutes initially.
Step 11
About halfway through the cooking time (around 15 minutes), open the air fryer basket and carefully flip the hash browns. This ensures even browning and crisping on both sides. Continue cooking for the remaining time.
Step 12
Your perfectly golden, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside air fryer hash browns are ready! Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
