Golden Crispy French Toast: The Easiest Way to Use Up Stale Bread!
Transform Stale Bread into a Delicious Brunch Treat in Minutes! Quick & Easy French Toast Recipe
Got leftover bread? Don’t let it go to waste! With just eggs, milk, and sugar, you can whip up the simplest and most delightful French toast. Enjoy a satisfying and tasty meal with this recipe that’s crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist on the inside. It’s so easy, anyone can make it!
Ingredients- 4 slices of bread (slightly stale bread works best)
- 2 large eggs
- 60ml milk (or heavy cream)
- 2 Tbsp sugar (adjust to your sweetness preference)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a wide bowl, crack the 2 large eggs. Add 60ml of milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk gently with a whisk or fork until the yolks and whites are well combined and the sugar has dissolved. This creates your custard mixture. (Tip: For an even richer and creamier French toast, substitute heavy cream for milk.)
Step 2
Prepare your bread slices. While you can use them whole, many prefer to cut the bread in half or quarters for easier handling and cooking. Feel free to cut them as you like, or leave them as is!
Step 3
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Be careful not to soak the bread for too long, as it can become soggy. A quick dip is often best to achieve a nice contrast between crispy exterior and tender interior. (Personally, I prefer a quick dip on the outside just before cooking for that perfect texture balance.)
Step 4
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with a little oil or butter (butter adds extra flavor!). Place the egg-coated bread slices onto the hot pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and beautifully toasted. (Tip: Cooking on low to medium-low heat ensures the inside cooks through completely without burning the outside.)
