Garlicky Butter Shrimp
Aromatic King Prawns Cooked in Garlic Butter
Enjoy a simple yet impressively delicious shrimp dish right at home. This recipe offers a wonderfully fragrant and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 10 large king prawns
- 1/2 cup dried mussels (soaked in water)
- 6 asparagus spears
- 1/2 cup sliced garlic
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, clean the king prawns by removing the heads, tails, and shells. Make a shallow cut along the back of each prawn; this helps them cook evenly and absorb flavors better. Soak the dried mussels in lukewarm water for about 30 minutes until they are rehydrated and softened. Thinly slice the garlic, and prepare the asparagus by trimming the tough ends and blanching them in boiling water for about 1 minute. Immediately refresh in cold water to maintain their crispness.
Step 2
Heat a deep skillet over medium heat and add the butter generously. Once the butter has melted, add the sliced garlic. Sauté the garlic over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until it turns golden and aromatic, being careful not to burn it.
Step 3
Add the prepared king prawns and the soaked mussels to the skillet. Sauté for 1-2 minutes, allowing the garlic butter to coat the seafood and infuse its flavor. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Remember to season gently at this stage, as the mussels can be naturally salty.
Step 4
Add the blanched asparagus spears to the pan. Gently toss everything together to combine. Cook for just another minute, ensuring the asparagus remains crisp-tender and doesn’t become overcooked.
Step 5
Pour in the milk and bring it to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat slightly and allow the sauce to thicken slightly as it cooks. The liquid will reduce to a consistency similar to a light cream sauce, creating a wonderfully rich yet delicate coating for the seafood. This creates a unique flavor profile that’s different from a heavy cream sauce.
Step 6
The shrimp are now perfectly cooked, with the butter and garlic flavors deeply infused into the succulent meat. The combination of tender shrimp, fragrant garlic, and rich butter is simply delicious. Serve immediately while warm for the best experience. This dish is perfect for creating a special meal at home!
