You can’t go wrong with this Garlic Butter Tteokbokki recipe! One bite will leave you in awe.
Today, we’re sharing a simple yet incredibly flavorful tteokbokki recipe. All you need are chewy rice cakes, garlic, butter, soy sauce, and corn syrup. Let’s make delicious tteokbokki easily.
Ingredients- 300g Tteokbokki rice cakes (tteok)
- 7 cloves garlic
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp corn syrup (oligo당)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thinly slice 6-7 cloves of garlic. Thinly slicing allows the garlic’s flavor to infuse well into the oil and creates a crispy texture when fried. You can also chop them or slice them into rounds according to your preference, but slices look prettiest and offer the best texture.
Step 2
It’s important to achieve a chewy texture for the rice cakes. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the rice cakes, and blanch them for about 1 minute. Immediately rinse them under cold water. This prevents the rice cakes from sticking together and helps them maintain a firm, springy texture when stir-fried.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat and add enough cooking oil to coat the bottom. Add the sliced garlic and fry over low heat for 3-4 minutes, being careful not to burn it. The garlic should turn a nice golden brown and release a fragrant aroma. Set the fried garlic aside on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil. These will be used as a garnish later.
Step 4
Wipe the excess oil from the pan used to fry the garlic. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan and melt it over low heat. Once the butter has melted, add the blanched rice cakes and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. The butter will coat the rice cakes, adding a rich, savory flavor. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the pan.
Step 5
Now it’s time to flavor the tteokbokki! Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 3 tablespoons of corn syrup to the pan. Stir-fry with the rice cakes for another 1-2 minutes, ensuring everything is evenly coated. The soy sauce should penetrate the rice cakes, and the corn syrup will give it a beautiful glossy finish and a touch of sweetness.
Step 6
Transfer the cooked tteokbokki to a serving dish. Finally, generously top with the crispy fried garlic slices you prepared earlier. If desired, sprinkle with some dried parsley for an extra touch of color and aroma. Enjoy your perfectly balanced sweet, savory, and garlicky tteokbokki!
