Make Crispy Garlic Bread with Baguettes
Create wonderfully crispy garlic bread using baguettes. This recipe offers a delightful texture that stays crisp even after cooling, perfect for snacks or parties.
Ingredients- 1 baguette (long loaf)
- 100g unsalted butter, softened (about 1/2 cup)
- 3-4 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)
- 2-3 Tbsp minced garlic (adjust to taste)
- A pinch of dried parsley (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start with a long baguette. A serrated bread knife will make slicing much easier.
Step 2
Slice the baguette into approximately 1cm thick rounds. Try to keep the slices consistent in thickness for even baking.
Step 3
As you can see, one baguette yields a generous amount of slices! They look delicious already.
Step 4
Garlic bread is best enjoyed fresh, but it can lose its crispiness over time. Today, we’re using a double-baking method, similar to making garlic rusks, to ensure it stays wonderfully crisp. Let’s make the garlic butter mixture! In a bowl, combine the softened butter with sweetened condensed milk, minced garlic, and dried parsley. If you love a strong garlic flavor, add more garlic. For a sweeter taste, increase the condensed milk. You can also substitute condensed milk with corn syrup or honey for a similar sweetness. Mix everything together until you have a smooth garlic butter spread.
Step 5
Generously spread the prepared garlic butter mixture onto the top surface of each baguette slice. Make sure to cover the entire surface, including the edges, for maximum flavor.
Step 6
Arrange the buttered baguette slices on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 10 minutes. You’ll know they’re ready when they start to turn golden brown and the kitchen fills with a fragrant garlic aroma.
Step 7
Carefully remove the garlic bread from the oven after the first bake and let it cool slightly. This initial baking helps to dry out the bread slightly, setting the stage for maximum crispiness.
Step 8
Once the bread is completely cool, return it to the oven, still preheated to 190°C (375°F), for another 2-3 minutes. This second bake is the secret to ensuring your garlic bread stays crispy for a long time, preventing any sogginess. Bake until the edges are a slightly deeper golden brown.
Step 9
Voila! Your perfectly crispy, buttery, and garlicky bread is ready! Enjoy the irresistible crunch and flavor.
