Main Ingredients- 2-3 ripe avocados
- 1 fresh tomato (cherry tomatoes are also great)
- ½ fresh lemon or 1-2 Tbsp lemon juice
- ½ small onion
Seasoning- Salt (to taste, approx. 1 Tbsp)
- Black pepper (to taste, approx. 0.5 Tbsp)
- Salt (to taste, approx. 1 Tbsp)
- Black pepper (to taste, approx. 0.5 Tbsp)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for your guacamole. Finely dice the tomato, removing the seeds. Any type of tomato works well, including cherry tomatoes. Peel and very finely mince the onion; about half of a small onion is sufficient. You can use the fresh juice from half a lemon or substitute with 1-2 tablespoons of bottled lemon juice. Since you’ll be extracting juice from a fresh lemon anyway, using bottled juice is perfectly acceptable.
Step 2
Select the star ingredient: avocados. Choose 2-3 avocados that are perfectly ripe – they should yield slightly to gentle pressure and have a dark green to purplish-black skin. Avoid avocados that are too hard or mushy.
Step 3
Cut the ripe avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado. It’s best to leave some small chunks for texture rather than mashing it into a completely smooth paste.
Step 4
Season the mashed avocado with salt and pepper. Adjust the quantities to your preference, but start with approximately 1 tablespoon of salt and 0.5 tablespoon of pepper. It’s crucial to taste and adjust the seasoning as you go.
Step 5
Add the finely diced tomato and minced onion to the bowl with the seasoned mashed avocado. Now, incorporate the lemon juice – either from half a fresh lemon or 1-2 tablespoons of bottled lemon juice. The lemon juice adds brightness and also helps prevent the avocado from turning brown.
Step 6
All the components are now in the bowl: the mashed avocado, diced tomato, minced onion, and lemon juice. It’s time to bring them all together.
Step 7
Gently fold all the ingredients together using a spatula or spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; vigorous stirring can release excess liquid from the avocado, making the guacamole watery. The goal is to gently incorporate everything.
Step 8
Transfer the finished guacamole to a serving dish. It’s perfect served with tortilla chips or tortilla scoops, making for a delightful appetizer or snack. Enjoy your fresh, homemade guacamole!
