- 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 Tbsp Tabasco sauce (or your favorite hot sauce, adjust to spice preference)
- A pinch of black pepper (freshly ground is best)
- 2 tsp taco seasoning (chili flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by selecting your avocados. For the best guacamole, choose avocados that are ripe: their skin should be dark, almost black, and they should yield slightly to gentle pressure. While slightly underripe avocados can still be used, they’ll require a bit more effort to mash.
Step 2
Carefully cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. A handy trick is to gently twist the halves to separate them, and then carefully tap the pit with the blade of your knife and twist to remove it.
Step 3
Prepare the red bell pepper. Finely dice about 1/3 of a small pepper or 1/4 of a medium one. This adds a lovely pop of color and a pleasant crunch to the guacamole.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the remaining vegetables. Finely dice the onion; soaking it in cold water for a few minutes beforehand can reduce its sharpness. Dice the ripe tomato, removing the watery seeds to prevent the guacamole from becoming too mushy. Finely chop the jalapeño, removing the seeds and membranes if you prefer less heat. (Tip: For a creamier texture, mince your vegetables very finely. If you prefer a chunkier guacamole with more distinct textures, chop them into slightly larger pieces.)
Step 5
In a medium bowl, scoop the avocado flesh and gently mash it with a fork or a potato masher. Aim for a texture that’s mostly smooth but still has some small chunks for interest. Add the seasonings: 2 pinches of salt, 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice, 1 tablespoon of Tabasco sauce, and 2 teaspoons of taco seasoning. Stir gently to combine.
Step 6
Gently fold in all the prepared diced vegetables (onion, bell pepper, tomato, and jalapeño). Use a spoon or spatula and mix just enough to distribute them evenly without over-mashing the avocado. Treat it like gently folding ingredients into a batter. Your delicious, fresh, and healthy homemade guacamole is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or as a topping for salads and sandwiches.
