Fresh & Creamy Avocado Guacamole
How to Make Authentic Avocado Guacamole at Home
This recipe guides you through making guacamole, a classic Mexican dip, by mashing ripe, creamy avocados and mixing them with fresh tomatoes, onions, chili peppers, and a squeeze of lime or lemon. It’s a vibrant dish perfect for dipping or as a flavorful spread.
Guacamole Ingredients- 1 ripe avocado
- 5 cherry tomatoes (or 1/2 medium tomato)
- 1/6 small onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice (or lime juice)
- 2 fresh basil leaves
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- Small amount of jalapeño or Serrano pepper (for spice, optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing the avocado. Choose a ripe one that yields gently to pressure. Make a cut around the pit, then twist the two halves of the avocado in opposite directions to separate them.
Step 2
Remove the pit from the avocado half. Scoop the flesh into a medium-sized bowl. The skin should peel away easily.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to mash the avocado. If you prefer a very smooth texture, mash it completely with a fork or potato masher. For a bit more texture, mash about 80% of the avocado, leaving some small chunks intact for a pleasant bite.
Step 4
Remove the stems from the cherry tomatoes. Wash them thoroughly under running water, optionally soaking them briefly in diluted vinegar for extra cleanliness. Pat them dry and dice them into small, bite-sized pieces (about 0.5 cm).
Step 5
Finely dice the onion. Aim for small, consistent pieces to ensure a pleasant texture in the guacamole. Finely chop the fresh basil leaves for a burst of aroma. If you like it spicy, finely mince the jalapeño or Serrano pepper, removing the seeds first. Adjust the amount to your spice preference.
Step 6
Add the diced onion, chopped tomatoes, and basil to the bowl with the mashed avocado. Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice (or lime juice) for a bright, zesty flavor. Using lime juice will give it a more authentic Mexican taste.
Step 7
Mince the garlic clove finely using the side of your knife or a garlic press, and add it to the bowl. This will enhance the overall flavor profile. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste.
Step 8
Gently mix all the ingredients together using a spatula or spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the avocado mushy. The goal is to incorporate all the flavors harmoniously.
Step 9
Your delicious homemade guacamole is ready! Serve it immediately with tortilla chips, toasted bread, or use it as a flavorful topping for sandwiches, tacos, or other favorite dishes. Enjoy the fresh, vibrant taste!
