Fresh Caprese Salad
How to Make a Three-Color Salad with Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes, and Arugula
Inspired by a visit to Traders’ Mart, I decided to create a Caprese salad, a classic Mediterranean dish from the island of Capri, using fresh mozzarella cheese. Enjoy this simple yet elegant taste of the Mediterranean at home.
Main Ingredients- 100g fresh mozzarella cheese
- 1 ripe tomato
- 10 leaves of arugula or basil
Dressing Ingredients- 1 Tbsp balsamic glaze
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp minced onion
- 1 tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp honey
- 1 Tbsp balsamic glaze
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp minced onion
- 1 tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the fresh mozzarella cheese. Gently rinse it under running water and pat dry.
Step 2
Gather your ingredients: 1 washed tomato, 100g of drained fresh mozzarella cheese, and 10 leaves of fresh arugula or basil.
Step 3
Slice the tomato and mozzarella cheese into uniform rounds, about 0.8cm to 1cm thick. Alternatively, you can cut them into bite-sized cubes of similar size. Keeping the pieces uniform makes the salad visually appealing and easier to eat.
Step 4
On a large serving platter or individual plates, arrange the sliced tomatoes, mozzarella, and arugula (or basil) in an alternating pattern, paying attention to color. Aim for a beautiful representation, reminiscent of the Italian flag’s green, white, and red.
Step 5
Your Caprese salad is now beautifully arranged and ready for the dressing.
Step 6
You can either drizzle the dressing directly over the salad or serve it on the side for each person to add as they please. Feel free to adjust the amount of dressing to your liking.
Step 7
Let’s prepare the Caprese dressing. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of finely minced onion, 1 tablespoon of balsamic glaze, 1 teaspoon of salt, and a pinch of black pepper.
Step 8
Finally, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1/2 tablespoon of honey. Whisk everything together with a whisk or fork until well combined. The honey adds a subtle sweetness, creating a refreshing and balanced balsamic dressing.
