Main Ingredients

  • 300g fresh magnolia flower buds
  • A wide pizza pan or baking sheet
  • Clean cheesecloth or paper towels

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare fresh and clean magnolia flower buds. Buds that have recently formed are ideal for making tea.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently detach the calyx (the part at the base of the bud) from the prepared magnolia buds. Then, carefully unfold each petal so the flower naturally opens. It’s important to handle the petals delicately to avoid damage.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the petals are unfurled, it’s best to avoid touching the magnolia flowers as much as possible. Frequent handling can cause browning and discoloration. Prepare a wide pizza pan or baking sheet and begin a gentle drying process using low heat (or the lowest oven setting) around the point where you hear a ‘click’ (around F point, typically between 100-120°C). It’s better to dry with indirect, gentle heat rather than direct pan heating.

Step 3

Step 4

In between drying cycles, allow the magnolia flowers to cool completely. Repeat this process of heat drying and cooling about 4 times. This helps to evenly remove moisture from the flowers while preserving their fragrance and color.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the completely dried magnolia flowers, with moisture removed, into an airtight glass jar or container. Storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct light will help maintain their freshness and aroma for a long time. Brew this carefully prepared magnolia flower tea with hot water and savor the fragrant taste of spring.
