Fragrant Seasoned Wild Chives (Chamnamul Muchim)
A Refreshing and Healthy Wild Chive Salad
Wild chives (Chamnamul) boast a unique, slightly pungent yet tender aroma. They are easy to digest and rich in fiber, making them beneficial for preventing constipation. Let’s learn how to make this delightful and healthy wild chive salad!
Ingredients for Wild Chive Salad- 400g Wild Chives (Chamnamul), one bunch
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Green Onion, finely chopped
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare one bunch of fresh wild chives. Selecting fresh chives is key to a delicious dish!
Step 2
Trim off any wilted leaves or tough ends from the wild chives. Be careful not to cut away too much, just the undesirable parts.
Step 3
Rinse the wild chives thoroughly under running water multiple times to remove any dirt or debris. Handle them gently as the leaves are delicate.
Step 4
Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, add the prepared wild chives.
Step 5
Blanch the wild chives just until they wilt slightly (about 30 seconds to 1 minute). Avoid overcooking, as they can become mushy. Immediately transfer the blanched chives to cold water to cool them down. This step helps maintain their crisp texture.
Step 6
Gently squeeze out excess water from the cooled wild chives. Chop them into bite-sized pieces, about 4-5 cm long. Cutting them too short might reduce their satisfying texture.
Step 7
Transfer the chopped wild chives to a large mixing bowl. Using a wide bowl will make it easier to mix the seasonings evenly.
Step 8
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. The pungent aroma of garlic complements the chives beautifully, enhancing the overall flavor.
Step 9
Finely chop one green onion (both white and green parts) and add it to the bowl. The fresh, mild onion flavor adds another layer of deliciousness.
Step 10
Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Depending on the type of soy sauce you use (e.g., regular or light), you might need to adjust the amount to your taste.
Step 11
For a balanced flavor, add a pinch of salt if needed. Combine all the seasoning ingredients and gently toss the chives with your hands. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can bruise the chives and release a raw taste.
Step 12
Finish by drizzling 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for a rich, nutty aroma. Gently toss once more to distribute the sesame oil.
Step 13
Sprinkle a generous amount of sesame seeds on top for garnish. The nutty crunch of the seeds adds a wonderful finishing touch.
Step 14
And there you have it! Your incredibly simple yet delicious and healthy wild chive salad is ready. Enjoy this fragrant and nutritious dish as a fantastic side dish or even a light salad. It’s sure to brighten up your meal!
