Sweet and Versatile Homemade Peach Compote
Are you someone who bought peaches that didn’t quite turn out right? Oh no! That was me too. Thankfully, I received some as a gift! Today, I’m going to show you how to make delicious homemade peach compote and peach ice. Enjoy!
Compote Ingredients- 5-10 ripe peaches (adjust quantity to your preference)
- Sugar (to taste)
- Water (enough to cover the peaches)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the peaches thoroughly. To ensure all pesticide residue is removed, you can soak them in water with a splash of vinegar for a few minutes before rinsing under running water. Next, peel the peaches, remove the pits, and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Try to keep the pieces a consistent size; if they are too small, they might break apart during cooking.
Step 2
In a large, deep pot, place the prepared peach pieces. Add your desired amount of sugar. You can adjust the sweetness to your liking. Then, pour in enough water to just cover the peaches. Using too much water might dilute the peach flavor, so aim for a moderate amount. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Step 3
Once the mixture starts boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer gently. Cook until the peaches have released their beautiful color and the syrup has slightly thickened. This is it! To store it for longer, carefully transfer the hot compote into sterilized glass jars and seal them immediately. This homemade peach compote is wonderful served simply mixed with water or sparkling water for a refreshing drink, or as a topping for toast, yogurt, or ice cream.
