Simple Garlic Baguette Recipe Using Leftover Baguette

Fragrant Garlic Baguette

Do you have half a baguette left over, or is it starting to get hard? Don’t throw it away! As someone who believes in ‘optimizing food inventory’ for a two-person household, I always find ways to use up ingredients instead of refrigerating or discarding them. Last weekend, I bought a baguette, and after eating about half, the rest became unappetizing. Instead of letting it get hard and stale, I decided to transform it into a sweet and garlicky baguette! This recipe is perfect for using up those slightly stale bread ends, turning them into a crispy, flavorful treat that pairs wonderfully with coffee or tea, or even as a simple snack for guests.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Baguette
  • 2 Tbsp Butter (softened at room temperature)
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • 1.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp Dried Parsley Flakes

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start making delicious garlic baguette by preparing the bread itself! Using a serrated bread knife, slice the baguette diagonally into pieces about 1.5 to 2 cm thick. Aim for uniform slices so they bake evenly. If you don’t have a bread knife, a sharp regular knife will also work.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s make the flavorful garlic butter sauce! In a mixing bowl, add 2 tablespoons of softened butter. To this, add 2 tablespoons of honey, 1.5 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1/2 tablespoon of dried parsley flakes. Combine all the sauce ingredients.

Step 2

Step 3

Tip: For unsalted butter, I sometimes add about 1/4 teaspoon of salt to enhance the flavor. However, if you’re using regular salted butter, you can skip adding extra salt as it will already be seasoned. Mix all the ingredients in the bowl thoroughly with a whisk or a fork until you achieve a smooth, well-combined paste. Ensure there are no lumps of butter.

Step 3

Step 4

Generously spread the prepared garlic butter mixture onto the cut sides of each baguette slice. Make sure to coat the surface evenly, reaching the edges, for maximum flavor in every bite.

Step 4

Step 5

It’s time to bake! Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Arrange the buttered baguette slices on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and wonderfully toasted.

Step 5

Step 6

Baking times can vary depending on your oven’s specifications. Around the 8-minute mark, start checking on the baguettes. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning and ensure they achieve your desired level of crispiness and golden-brown color. Once they look perfectly toasted, remove them from the oven. Enjoy your warm, crispy, and fragrant garlic baguettes immediately!
