This recipe is perfect for when you have leftover pork neck and want to make a satisfying pilaf. It’s a fantastic way to transform any remaining grilled pork neck into a gourmet meal with minimal effort. Enjoy a rich and flavorful dish that’s surprisingly easy to prepare.
Main Ingredients- Pork neck 300g (about 3 palm-sized pieces)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 zucchini
- 1/2 bell pepper
- 1 king oyster mushroom
Sauce and Seasoning- 4 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 Tbsp tonkatsu sauce
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (like Mirin)
- 4 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 Tbsp tonkatsu sauce
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (like Mirin)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash all your vegetables (onion, zucchini, bell pepper, king oyster mushroom) and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Cut the leftover pork neck into similarly sized pieces. Season the pork neck with salt and pepper, then drizzle with cooking wine (Mirin) to tenderize and remove any gamey odor. Set aside the cooked rice that has cooled slightly from the rice cooker; this helps prevent it from clumping when stir-fried.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the seasoned pork neck and stir-fry until it’s lightly browned, being careful not to burn it. As the pork cooks, it will release its flavorful juices.
Step 3
Once the pork is partially cooked, push it to one side of the pan. Add about 1 tablespoon of butter to the empty space and let it melt. The butter will add a wonderful aroma. Stir the butter into the pork. Now, add the vegetables to the pan, starting with those that take longer to cook.
Step 4
Add the zucchini, bell pepper, onion, and king oyster mushroom to the pan with the pork. Stir-fry everything together until the vegetables begin to soften and become slightly translucent.
Step 5
Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the cooking mixture. Remember, you can always add more seasoning later after tasting, so start with just a little.
Step 6
Now it’s time to add the sauces that bring this dish together. Pour in 4 tablespoons of oyster sauce and 3 tablespoons of tonkatsu sauce into the pan. This ratio is a good starting point, but feel free to adjust the amounts of oyster sauce and tonkatsu sauce to suit your personal taste preferences for sweetness and saltiness.
Step 7
Stir-fry everything well until the sauces coat all the ingredients evenly and begin to thicken slightly. Add the cooled rice to the pan. Use a spatula to gently break up the rice and mix it with the other ingredients, ensuring each grain is coated. Continue to stir-fry until the rice is thoroughly heated and well combined with the sauce and vegetables.
Step 8
Once the rice and all the ingredients are perfectly stir-fried and have a nice, fluffy texture, your delicious Pork Neck Pilaf is ready! Serve immediately while hot. For an extra touch, you can top it with a fried egg or a sprinkle of parsley.
