The subtle aroma of garlic and butter that fills your kitchen as the rice cooks is sure to whet your appetite, infusing each grain with a deep, delicious flavor that makes the rice enjoyable on its own.
Ingredients- 1 cup Rice (approx. 180ml)
- 1 handful Garlic slices or 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp Butter (approx. 5g)
- 1/2 tsp Umami seasoning (like Dashida)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare and rinse 1 cup of rice for one serving. Drain the rice and place it in the inner pot of your rice cooker. Add a handful of thinly sliced garlic or about 1 tablespoon of minced garlic on top of the rice. Sliced garlic will impart a subtle aroma as the rice cooks, while minced garlic will give a more intense garlic flavor. Next, add 1/2 teaspoon of umami seasoning (like Dashida) for an extra flavor boost and 1 teaspoon of butter for a rich, savory taste. You can add the butter directly from the refrigerator; it doesn’t need to be softened.
Step 2
Now, add water to the rice cooker. The amount of water should be the same as you would normally use for cooking 1 cup of rice. While the exact amount might vary slightly depending on the type and age of your rice, using your usual water level for a single serving is a good starting point. Once all the ingredients are in, close the lid of the rice cooker and select the ‘Regular Cook’ or ‘White Rice’ setting. Your rice cooker will take care of the rest, creating delicious garlic butter rice.
Step 3
When the rice cooker signals that the cooking is complete, let the rice steam for about 5-10 minutes before opening the lid. This steaming process helps the rice grains become fluffy and perfectly cooked. After steaming, open the lid and gently fluff the rice using a rice paddle. Mix from the bottom up, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure the melted butter, garlic, and seasoning are evenly distributed throughout the rice.
Step 4
And there you have it – incredibly flavorful garlic butter rice! Serve this warm, aromatic rice in a bowl and enjoy. This simple yet deeply flavorful dish is perfect with just kimchi or a light vegetable side. It’s also a great option for a quick breakfast or a satisfying snack for kids. Give it a try!
