  • 4 sheets of fish cake (eomuk, approx. 200g)
  • 2 medium potatoes (approx. 300g)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or similar)
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness as desired)
  • 4 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil (for sautéing)
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of sesame seeds
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, peel and wash the potatoes, then slice them thinly about 0.5 cm thick. If they are too thick, they will take longer to cook. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces (approx. 3×4 cm). For a cleaner taste, you can blanch the fish cakes in boiling water before cutting.

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cooking wine, corn syrup, water, and minced garlic. Whisk well to create the seasoning sauce. You can substitute corn syrup with sugar if preferred.

Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced potatoes and sauté for about 2-3 minutes. Lightly sautéing the potatoes helps them absorb the sauce better and prevents them from breaking apart during cooking.

Once the potatoes are slightly tender, pour in the prepared seasoning sauce and cover the pan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. When the sauce is bubbling, add the cut fish cakes. Continue to cook over medium heat, allowing the sauce to reduce and coat the potatoes and fish cakes. To ensure even cooking and flavor distribution, gently shake the pan or ladle some sauce over the ingredients as it simmers. Just before turning off the heat, stir in the sesame oil, sesame seeds, and black pepper for a final touch of flavor.
