Elegant Tofu Open-Faced Sandwich
Tofu Open-Faced Sandwich: Deliciously versatile tofu for your sandwich fillings!
We’ve created a delightful open-faced sandwich by pan-searing tofu until golden brown, then glazing it with steak sauce and topping it with a vibrant mix of fresh vegetables on toasted bread. This recipe is highly recommended for a satisfying breakfast or a delightful brunch option.
Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread
- 1/2 block firm tofu
- 2 strips of bacon
- A handful of baby greens
- (Cherry) tomatoes, 3-4
- 2-3 Tbsp steak sauce
- 1 Tbsp balsamic glaze
- 1 tsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Slice the tofu into pieces that are roughly the same size as your bread slices, aiming for a wider surface area. Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Sear the tofu on both sides until nicely golden brown and slightly crisp. Once browned, generously brush the steak sauce onto the tofu slices. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the tofu beautifully. This process ensures the tofu is flavorful and retains a pleasant texture.
Step 2
Place the bacon strips in a non-stick skillet over medium heat without adding any oil. Cook until the bacon is crispy. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess grease. Wash the baby greens thoroughly and pat them completely dry. Halve the cherry tomatoes. (Feel free to substitute or add other vegetables you have on hand, such as lettuce or avocado slices.)
Step 3
Toast one slice of bread until golden brown and crisp, either in a toaster or a dry skillet. Begin assembling your open-faced sandwich by layering the steak sauce-glazed tofu onto the toasted bread. Follow with the crispy bacon, a generous portion of fresh baby greens, and finally, the halved cherry tomatoes. Drizzle a touch of balsamic glaze over the top for an extra layer of flavor. Repeat the process for the second slice of bread to complete your sandwich.
