  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Entertaining / Guests
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin 300g
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 yellow bell pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 2 shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 baby bok choy
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp butter or olive oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Steak Bite Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 4 Tbsp steak sauce or tonkatsu sauce
  • 1.5 Tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • A pinch of salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pat the beef sirloin dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Trim any tough sinew and cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.

Step 1

Step 2

Season the beef with a little salt and pepper, then gently massage it with your hands. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes to tenderize the meat.

Step 2

Step 3

Let’s make the sauce that adds wonderful flavor! In a bowl, combine 4 Tbsp steak sauce (or tonkatsu sauce), 2 Tbsp oyster sauce, 2 Tbsp oligodang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1.5 Tbsp tomato ketchup. Mix well. Adjust the saltiness to your preference.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare the fresh vegetables. Cut the red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, and onion into similar bite-sized pieces. Wash the baby bok choy and cut it into 2-3 sections. Feel free to use any other leftover vegetables you have in the fridge. It’s best to chop the vegetables just before stir-frying to maintain their freshness.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the butter (or olive oil) and 5 sliced garlic cloves. Sauté over low heat until fragrant. Once the garlic aroma is released, add the chopped vegetables and marinated beef. Stir-fry quickly over high heat. It’s crucial to cook the beef quickly so the outside is seared but the inside remains tender. As the beef starts to cook, pour in the prepared sauce and stir-fry rapidly over high heat for 1-2 minutes until the sauce coats everything evenly.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, add the baby bok choy and stir-fry for just a short moment. You want to keep it slightly crisp. Turn off the heat and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a delicious finish.

Step 6

Step 7

Optional: Prepare some greens to accompany the dish. Wash fresh lettuce and perilla leaves and arrange them around the edge of the plate for a more appealing presentation.

Step 7

Step 8

Place the warm rice into a bowl and press it down firmly with a spoon to shape it. Carefully invert the bowl onto the serving plate.

Step 8

Step 9

Arrange the cooked steak bites attractively over the rice. Sprinkle with additional toasted sesame seeds or parsley flakes, if desired, to complete your restaurant-worthy steak bite dish.
