Elegant Homemade Omurice
A Delicious Omurice Recipe the Whole Family Will Love
Introducing a golden recipe for tender omurice that will make any day feel special. This magical dish is so delicious, it’s even won over picky eaters, including my husband! Prepare to be amazed. π³
Rice Ingredients- 1 bowl of warm rice (approx. 200g)
- 1 handful of finely chopped carrots (approx. 30g)
- 1 handful of finely chopped zucchini (approx. 30g)
- 1 handful of finely chopped Spam or ham (approx. 50g)
- 2 fresh eggs
Egg Mixture- A pinch of salt (very little)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the ingredients for the stir-fried rice, the heart of your omurice. Wash the zucchini thoroughly, remove the seeds, and chop it very finely so it’s easy for children to eat. π²

Wash the carrots well to remove any dirt, then finely dice them to a similar size as the zucchini. The vibrant orange color will make your stir-fried rice look even more appetizing. π₯
Step 3
Dice the Spam or your preferred ham into small pieces, similar in size to the vegetables. The savory saltiness of the ham will enhance the flavor of the rice. π₯
Step 4
Prepare some chopped green onions for added aroma. If you’re using frozen green onions, you can thaw them beforehand or chop them while still frozen β either works! (The green onions in the photo were frozen!) βοΈ
Step 5
Now, let’s make the stir-fried rice. Preheat your frying pan and lightly grease it with cooking oil or olive oil. Be careful not to use too much, or the rice might become greasy. π₯

Once the oil is warm, add the chopped green onions first and sautΓ© them gently over low heat until fragrant. The onion aroma will infuse the oil, significantly boosting the flavor of your rice. π

When the green onions start to look translucent, add the finely chopped carrots, zucchini, and ham. You can add all the ingredients at once to stir-fry. π

Increase the heat to medium and stir-fry all the ingredients together with a spatula or spoon until well combined. The moisture from the vegetables and ham will blend with the other ingredients. π₯

Once the ingredients are partially cooked, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the warm rice and gently break up any clumps with your spatula, mixing it thoroughly with the other ingredients. When the rice is about halfway mixed, turn off the heat. (Cooking too long can make the rice mushy.) π

Gather the stir-fried rice to one side of the pan. This will make it much easier to pour the egg mixture around it and form a neat shape later. π§Ί

Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl. Add just a tiny pinch of salt to help neutralize any eggy smell and add a subtle seasoning. π₯

Using a fork or a whisk, gently beat the eggs until the yolks and whites are well combined. You don’t need to whisk them too vigorously. π₯£

Reheat a clean frying pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of olive oil. Swirl the pan to coat it thinly with oil, then pour in the beaten egg. Swirl the pan again to help the egg spread into a thin, even circle. Reduce the heat to low as soon as the edges begin to set. π³

Before the egg is fully cooked, carefully place the stir-fried rice (which you gathered to one side) onto the egg. (It’s easier to shape the omurice if you place the rice in the center of the egg, rather than on the side as shown in the photo!) πΌοΈ

Now for the grand finale of omurice making! Tilt the frying pan, place a plate over it, and carefully slide the egg and rice mixture onto the plate. The uncooked side of the egg should be underneath, helping to encase the rice as you fold it over. π€ΈββοΈ

Let’s make the special sauce to top your omurice. In a small bowl, combine 5 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp steak sauce, and 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide. π₯«

Place the bowl with the sauce ingredients over low heat and stir well as it simmers. Once the sauce starts to bubble, let it cook for about 1 minute more until it thickens to a nice consistency. Your delicious omurice sauce is ready! β¨

Generously pour the warm, freshly made sauce over your omurice. For an extra touch, you can drizzle a little mayonnaise and sprinkle chopped parsley for garnish. Behold, your beautiful and delicious homemade omurice is complete! Enjoy your meal! π
