Introducing an elegant recipe for beef and vegetable rolls, perfect for special occasions and entertaining guests. Though simple, the effort involved will surely impress your guests.
Main Ingredients
- 200g Beef (thinly sliced, like for bulgogi or shabu-shabu)
- 5 Perilla leaves (깻잎)
- 1 stalk white part of a green onion (approx. 10cm long)
- 1 piece imitation crab stick (optional, kids love it!)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Beef is delicious simply grilled, but today we’re going to elevate it by rolling it with fresh vegetables and lightly pan-frying it. These beef and vegetable rolls are perfect for entertaining guests. Add a touch of elegance to your special occasion meal.
Step 2
First, slice the beef to a thickness similar to that for ‘yukjeon’ (beef pancakes) or thinly sliced for shabu-shabu. For the vegetables, we’ll use perilla leaves and green onions. Feel free to add any other vegetables or ingredients you have on hand, like imitation crab sticks. Cut the white part of the green onion into about 10cm lengths.
Step 3
Gently pat the surface of the thinly sliced beef with paper towels to remove excess blood. This step helps to eliminate any gamey smell and ensures a cleaner flavor profile.
Step 4
Now, place one perilla leaf onto a slice of beef. Then, arrange the prepared green onion and imitation crab stick (or your chosen vegetables) neatly on top. Be mindful not to overfill, as it can make rolling difficult. Aim for a balanced amount.
Step 5
Starting from one end, carefully and tightly roll the beef and vegetables together. Ensure the filling stays secure. Once rolled, use 2-3 toothpicks to secure the rolls and prevent them from unraveling during cooking.
Step 6
You’ll now have beautifully rolled beef and vegetable bundles. Set them aside briefly to hold their shape before slicing them for serving.
Step 7
Lightly oil a heated pan, or cook them directly on a non-stick surface without oil. Pan-fry the beef rolls, turning them gently, until the beef changes color and is cooked through. Be careful not to burn them, and aim for a nice golden-brown sear on all sides over low to medium heat.
Step 8
Once cooked, slice the beef and vegetable rolls into bite-sized pieces and arrange them attractively on a platter. You’ve now created a visually appealing and delicious dish perfect for guests! For an extra touch, serve with the accompanying sweet and tangy dipping sauce made from soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, water, and mustard.
