Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • Beef steak, 75g
  • Olive oil, 1 Tbsp
  • Butter, 5g
  • Salt, 2 pinches
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme (or dried), a sprig
  • Fresh rosemary (or dried), a sprig

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, add 1 Tbsp of olive oil and 5g of butter to the inner pot of your rice cooker. Set it to the ‘Reheat’ or ‘Steam’ function for 9 minutes to preheat. This process will melt the butter and infuse it with aromatic flavor.

Step 1

Step 2

Take out your 75g beef steak, which should be thoroughly frozen. Pat it dry lightly with a paper towel. Season both sides generously with 1 pinch of salt and a good grind of black pepper. Let it naturally defrost for about 10 minutes while the rice cooker preheats. *Crucially, do not let it fully thaw; a slightly frozen center is key for this method.

Step 2

Step 3

After the 9-minute preheat cycle, your rice cooker will have a pot of heated olive oil and melted butter, ready to sear your steak.

Step 3

Step 4

Carefully place the seasoned steak onto the hot olive oil and butter in the preheated rice cooker pot. Lay a sprig of fresh thyme and rosemary on top of the steak to impart their fragrant oils. *Remember, keeping the steak partially frozen ensures it cooks perfectly – tender inside with a nice sear outside from the rice cooker’s heat.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, set the rice cooker to the ‘Reheat’ or ‘Steam’ function again for another 9 minutes. During this time, the steak will develop a beautiful sear on the outside while cooking to a perfect medium-rare inside.

Step 5

Step 6

After 9 minutes, open the rice cooker to reveal your perfectly cooked, juicy, and aromatic steak! It’s amazing how easily you can achieve restaurant-quality results with just a rice cooker.

Step 6

Step 7

If you prefer your steak cooked more towards medium or medium-well, you can adjust the cooking time. After placing the steak in the hot oil and butter (before adding herbs in step 3), simply run the ‘Reheat’ or ‘Steam’ function for an additional 9 minutes. For even more doneness, you may need to extend the time slightly, but always start by checking after the initial period. Enjoy your customized steak!
