Bake Delicious Croissants at Home with Frozen Dough: The Ultimate Budget-Friendly Choice!

Effortless Baked Croissants Using Frozen Dough

Croissant, named after the French word for ‘crescent moon’, is a pastry typically shaped into a triangle and rolled up before baking. Its signature flaky texture comes from layers of butter, making it delightfully crispy. While traditional croissant dough can be time-consuming, using pre-made frozen dough makes baking them at home incredibly easy and satisfying. Especially if you’re finding butter prices a bit steep lately, this method offers fantastic value for money! Roll them up and bake for a crispy exterior and tender, buttery interior.

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing a super simple method to make cafe-quality croissants right at home, using convenient pre-made frozen dough. No more complicated kneading or long proofing times! I used to make croissants from scratch, but with the rising cost of butter, I’ve turned to high-quality frozen dough sheets, and they are truly a game-changer. This recipe is not only easy but also incredibly cost-effective. Let’s get started!

Step 1

Step 2

Proofing the Croissant Dough: First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. The frozen croissant dough usually comes completely frozen. Place the dough sheets on the prepared baking sheet. To prevent them from drying out during proofing, cover the sheet loosely with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel. Let them proof at room temperature for about 1 to 2 hours. The exact proofing time will depend on your room’s temperature. You’ll know they’re ready to bake when they’ve roughly tripled in volume and look puffy. Be careful not to over-proof, as they might spread too much.

Step 2

Step 3

Adding a Beautiful Golden Glaze: Once the dough has finished proofing, it’s time for the final touch before baking. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of water to create an egg wash. Gently brush this mixture over the surface of the proofed croissants. This step is optional but highly recommended, as it gives the croissants a beautiful, rich golden-brown color and a lovely sheen when baked, making them look even more appetizing.

Step 3

Step 4

Baking Your Delicious Croissants: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Once the oven is preheated, carefully place the baking sheet with the egg-washed croissants inside. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are beautifully golden brown and puffed up. While the original instructions mentioned a ‘bread’ setting for 30 minutes, typically, croissants benefit from higher heat for a shorter duration to achieve maximum crispiness. Adjust the baking time and temperature based on your oven’s performance. You’ll be rewarded with perfectly flaky, buttery croissants!
