Easy Steamed Buns with Hotteok Mix
Warm Winter Snack: Homemade Steamed Buns Using Hotteok Mix (No Proofing Needed!)
There’s nothing quite like a warm, fluffy steamed bun (Hoppang) on a chilly winter day! This recipe makes it incredibly simple to create these delightful treats at home, using a convenient pre-made Hotteok (Korean sweet pancake) mix. Forget complicated proofing processes; this method allows you to quickly whip up soft, satisfying steamed buns filled with sweet red bean paste. Enjoy a comforting winter snack made effortlessly!
Steamed Bun Ingredients
- 1 packet Hotteok mix
- 250ml warm water (approx. 1 Korean measuring cup)
- 1 Korean measuring cup sweet red bean paste (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the Hotteok mix packet and 250ml of warm water. Mix with a spatula or your hands until a dough forms. (Refer to the instructions on the Hotteok mix packaging for precise water measurements, as this can sometimes vary).
Step 2
Once the dough comes together into a cohesive ball, lightly dust your work surface with flour. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
Step 3
Flatten each dough ball into a small disc using your palm. Place about 1/8th of the red bean paste in the center of each disc. Carefully gather the edges of the dough to enclose the filling, pinching to seal and forming a round bun shape.
Step 4
Fill a steamer with water and bring it to a boil. Once steaming, carefully arrange the shaped buns in the steamer, ensuring they don’t touch each other. Cover and steam for about 7-8 minutes until the buns are cooked through and fluffy. For best results, use a damp cloth placed over the steamer before adding the buns to prevent the surface from drying out.
