- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 5 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 100ml water
- 10 Tbsp ketchup
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 5 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the delicious Hamburg steak sauce. In the rice cooker inner pot, combine all the sauce ingredients: 100ml water, 10 Tbsp ketchup, 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 5 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp butter, and 1 Tbsp onion powder. Stir well with a whisk or spoon until combined. It’s okay if the onion powder isn’t fully dissolved. (Tip: If you don’t have onion powder, you can finely mince 1/2 an onion and use that instead. Powder is much more convenient!) This amount of sauce is enough for about 6 Hamburg steaks.
Step 2
Now, use the rice cooker’s ‘Reheat’ or ‘Cook’ function to heat for about 9 minutes. Once the sauce is smoothly blended and slightly thickened, the sauce preparation is complete. Transfer the finished sauce to a separate bowl.
Step 3
While the sauce is being made, let’s prepare the Hamburg steak mixture. In a bowl, add the 250g ground beef and 250g ground pork. Then, add all the prepared patty ingredients together: 4 Tbsp ketchup, 2 Tbsp garlic powder (or 2 Tbsp minced garlic), 6 Tbsp onion powder (or 8 Tbsp minced onion), 1 Tbsp sugar, 8 Tbsp frying powder (tempura powder also works fine), 1 Tbsp vinegar, and a pinch of black pepper.
Step 4
Once all the ingredients are in, knead the mixture thoroughly with your hands until it becomes sticky and well combined. It’s important to mix it enough so the meat clumps together. (Tip: The onion powder I used was red onion powder, which is why the mixture has a slightly redder color. Using regular onion powder won’t affect the taste at all.)
Step 5
Divide the well-mixed dough into 6 portions. Take one portion at a time and flatten it into a patty shape with your palms. Place one Hamburg steak patty into the rice cooker inner pot. Lightly press the center to create a slight indentation. (This helps prevent the center from puffing up too much while cooking.) Use the rice cooker’s ‘Reheat’ or ‘Cook’ function to cook for about 9 minutes. (Since the rice cooker cooks one at a time, if you want to make a larger batch, it’s recommended to make 6 patties, cook 1-2 at a time, and then freeze the rest individually wrapped, thawing and cooking them later.)
Step 6
After 9 minutes, carefully flip the Hamburg steak patty and cook the other side for another 9 minutes using the ‘Reheat’ or ‘Cook’ function. Ensure both sides are browned and cooked through.
Step 7
Remove the cooked Hamburg steak from the rice cooker and place it on a plate. Pour the prepared sauce generously over the Hamburg steak, and enjoy immediately!
Step 8
Alternatively, you can leave the cooked Hamburg steak in the rice cooker. Pour the prepared sauce for one serving over the steak in the cooker. Then, use the ‘Reheat’ or ‘Cook’ function to heat for another 9 minutes. This allows the warm sauce to soak into the Hamburg steak, creating a richer flavor.
Step 9
And there you have it! A warm and delicious Rice Cooker Hamburg Steak is ready. Enjoy your meal! 🙂
