Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Tuna (drained)
  • 1/2 can Corn kernels (drained)
  • 1/2 Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 Red chili pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped)
  • 1/2 stalk Green onion or scallion (finely chopped)
  • 1 Egg

Batter Seasoning

  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 3 Tbsp Pancake mix (buchim garu)
  • 1 Tbsp Starch (cornstarch or potato starch)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Drain the canned corn kernels thoroughly and finely chop the onion. Likewise, remove the seeds from the red chili pepper and finely chop it. Finely chop the green onion or scallion as well. Preparing the vegetables in advance will make the cooking process much smoother.

Step 1

Step 2

Carefully drain all the oil from the canned tuna. If there’s too much oil left, the pancake can become greasy. It’s best to drain it using a sieve or press it with paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 2

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, drained corn, chopped onion, chopped red chili pepper, and chopped green onion. Add the pancake mix and starch to the bowl. Adding starch will help make the pancakes crispier.

Step 3

Step 4

Crack 1 egg into the mixture and add a pinch of salt to season. The egg helps bind all the ingredients together and adjust the batter’s consistency.

Step 4

Step 5

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly using a spoon or spatula. The batter should be slightly thick, enough for the ingredients to hold together, but not too stiff. If the batter is too dry, add a little water or egg wash. If it’s too thin, add a bit more pancake mix to thicken it.

Step 5

Step 6

At this stage, you can add other chopped vegetables according to your preference. For example, adding finely chopped carrots, zucchini, or mushrooms can also be delicious. (In this recipe, red chili pepper and green onion were added, with an optional addition of parsley flakes for extra flavor and color.)

Step 6

Step 7

Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Spoon portions of the batter onto the pan to form small pancakes. Cook until golden brown and cooked through on both sides. Cooking over medium-low heat ensures the inside cooks thoroughly without burning the outside. Once both sides are golden, your delicious corn and tuna pancakes are ready!
