Recipe Info

  • Category : Stew
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet of Sari Gomtang ramen (use noodles, powder soup base, and flakes)
  • 1 handful of bean sprouts (approx. 100g)
  • 2 pieces of frankfurter sausages
  • 1/2 large green onion
  • 100g baked beans
  • 1.5 Tbsp Ssamjang (Korean fermented soybean paste)
  • 200g Spam (or luncheon meat)
  • A portion of ripe kimchi (cut into bite-sized pieces)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the green onion thoroughly and slice it diagonally into about 0.5cm thick pieces. This will infuse a subtle onion flavor into the broth as it cooks.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, cut the Spam into bite-sized cubes, about 1cm thick. Slice the frankfurter sausages diagonally, about 0.5cm thick. Slicing the sausages diagonally creates a larger surface area that mixes better with the broth.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to assemble all the prepared ingredients in a pot. Start by placing the washed bean sprouts at the bottom of the pot. Then, arrange the sliced Spam, frankfurter sausages, and diagonally cut green onion attractively on top. Add about 100g of baked beans alongside, and generously add the chopped ripe kimchi.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour enough water into the pot to generously cover all the ingredients. About 1 liter is usually sufficient, but you can adjust it according to your preference. Then, add the flakes and the powder soup base from the Sari Gomtang ramen packet to establish the base flavor of the broth.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, add 1.5 tablespoons of Ssamjang, a staple in Korean cuisine. Ssamjang adds a savory and deep flavor characteristic of Budae Jjigae, making the broth even richer and more complex.

Step 5

Step 6

Gently stir the contents of the pot to ensure all ingredients are well combined. It’s important for the broth to permeate every part of the ingredients. Once mixed, place the pot on the stove and bring it to a boil over high heat.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the broth starts boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. Let it simmer for another 15 minutes. This simmering time allows the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a deep and rich broth. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface for a cleaner taste.

Step 7

Step 8

This is the final step! When the broth has sufficiently infused with flavor, turn the heat back up to high. Add the Sari Gomtang noodles to the pot. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, or until the noodles are tender and cooked through. Your delicious Sari Gomtang Budae Jjigae is now ready to be enjoyed, tasting just like it came from a restaurant! Serve immediately while hot.
