Fresh Ingredients
- 2 ripe avocados
- 2 small tomatoes (or 1/2 large tomato)
- 1/2 small onion
Flavor Enhancers
- 4 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp fine salt
- 4 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp fine salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your ingredients: 2 avocados, 2 small tomatoes (or 1/2 a large tomato), and 1/2 a small onion. Fresh ingredients are the foundation of delicious guacamole.
Step 2
Check if your avocados are perfectly ripe and soft. Insert a knife into the avocado lengthwise, all the way to the pit. Twist the knife to create a score mark. Hold each half of the avocado firmly in your hands and twist them apart. If the pit is stuck to the knife, gently twist it as you pull the knife out for easier removal.
Step 3
Here’s a handy tip for removing the avocado pit: Gently tap the pit with the blade of your knife, then hold the knife handle and give the pit a slight twist. It should pop out easily. If it’s still stubborn, keep the knife in place, place the avocado on a cutting board, and gently tap the knife handle with your other hand. The pit should come out smoothly. Always be careful when using knives to avoid injury!
Step 4
There are two main ways to separate the avocado flesh from the skin. The first method uses a spoon: Slide a spoon between the skin and the flesh and gently rotate it to scoop out the flesh. It should come away easily.
Step 5
The second method involves peeling the skin by hand. Ripe avocados usually have skin that peels off effortlessly. Gently grip the skin and pull it away from the flesh. Once the flesh is out, place it in a bowl.
Step 6
Now, let’s prepare the onion. Remove the core from half of the onion and finely dice it. Dicing it finely will add a pleasant texture to your guacamole. Aim for small, uniform pieces, but don’t mince it into a paste.
Step 7
For the tomatoes, remove the stem. Gently scoop out the watery inner seeds, as these can make your guacamole too watery. Finely chop the tomato flesh into pieces similar in size to the diced onion, or slightly smaller. Removing the seeds is key to preventing a mushy consistency.
Step 8
Place the separated avocado flesh into a large bowl. Use a fork or a potato masher to gently mash the avocado. It’s best to leave some small chunks of avocado for a more enjoyable texture. If you prefer a chunkier guacamole, mash it less thoroughly.
Step 9
Add the finely diced onion and chopped tomatoes to the mashed avocado. Now the delicious components of your guacamole are coming together.
Step 10
Finally, pour in the fresh lemon juice (4 Tbsp) and add the salt (1 tsp). Gently stir everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed by adding more salt or lemon juice. Your delicious avocado guacamole is now complete! Serve it on bread or crackers for a delightful canapé, or enjoy it as a dip.
