Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack store-bought Inari sushi kit
  • 4 imitation crab sticks
  • 4 sheets pickled radish (danmuji)
  • A little bit of carrot
  • 1/2 onion
  • A little bit of bell pepper
  • A little bit of simmered burdock root
  • 150g beef bulgogi cut

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

It’s great to use various vegetables you have at home or any leftover ingredients from making kimbap. First, finely chop the imitation crab sticks and set them aside.

Step 1

Step 2

Similarly, finely chop the pickled radish. Using kimbap-style pickled radish will make it convenient.

Step 2

Step 3

Finely julienne the carrot, then mince it as finely as possible. Mincing vegetables finely is a good trick if children are reluctant to eat them.

Step 3

Step 4

Finely mince 1/2 of the onion. The sweetness of the onion will enhance the flavor of the inari sushi.

Step 4

Step 5

Bell peppers might be disliked by some children, but chopping them finely adds color and can sneakily encourage consumption. Try using bell peppers of various colors.

Step 5

Step 6

If you have pre-simmered burdock root at home, use it! Finely chopping and adding it will add texture and flavor. It’s okay to omit if you don’t have it.

Step 6

Step 7

Finely mince the 150g of beef bulgogi cut. It’s convenient to ask your butcher to mince it for you.

Step 7

Step 8

In a bowl with the minced beef, add 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp mirin, a pinch of black pepper, and 1 Tbsp oyster sauce. Mix well to marinate the beef thoroughly. Ensure the marinade is evenly distributed.

Step 8

Step 9

In 3 bowls of warm cooked rice, add the 2 seasoning packets from the inari sushi kit. Use a spatula to mix gently and evenly, creating a delicious seasoned sushi rice. It’s important to mix gently so the rice grains don’t get crushed.

Step 9

Step 10

First, place the finely chopped raw vegetables (carrot, onion, bell pepper, etc.) in a pan with a little oil and sauté them. Stir-frying until the vegetables become slightly translucent will bring out their sweetness.

Step 10

Step 11

Once the raw vegetables are somewhat cooked, add the imitation crab sticks, pickled radish, simmered burdock root, and other prepared ingredients. Sauté everything together. Do not add the marinated beef at this stage.

Step 11

Step 12

Separately, cook the marinated beef bulgogi in another pan. Stir-frying quickly over high heat will seal in the juices and make it more delicious.

Step 12

Step 13

Combine the sautéed vegetable mixture with the seasoned rice and mix well. Ensure every grain of rice is coated with the flavor and aroma of the vegetables. (The separately cooked beef will be added later.)

Step 13

Step 14

Now, let’s prepare the fried tofu pouches (aburaage). For the triangle-shaped pouches, avoid squeezing them too dry, as they can crumble easily. Squeeze them gently to retain some moisture. This will help the filling remain moist.

Step 14

Step 15

The square-shaped pouches tend to be saltier than the triangular ones. Squeeze out a bit more moisture compared to the triangular ones. Adjust the squeezing based on the saltiness.

Step 15

Step 16

Let’s start by making the square inari sushi. Firmly press the seasoned rice into the pocket of the square pouch. Be careful not to press too hard, or the pouch might tear!

Step 16

Step 17

On top of the square inari sushi, create a small indentation or space to easily place the separately cooked beef bulgogi. (Referring to the video will make it easier to understand how to shape them!)

Step 17

Step 18

Doesn’t it look appetizing? It’s making me hungry!

Step 18

Step 19

For the triangular inari sushi, we’ll do it a bit differently. Combine the seasoned rice, sautéed vegetables, and the separately cooked beef bulgogi in a bowl. Mix them thoroughly so the savory flavor of the beef blends well with the rice.

Step 19

Step 20

Then, following the same method as the square inari sushi, firmly press the mixture of rice and beef into the triangular pouches. Doesn’t it look delicious?

Step 20

Step 21

Your colorful and delicious beef inari sushi is complete! If you like, you can add a dab of wasabi for a spicy kick. Enjoy your meal!
