Ingredients

  • 4 portions of dried corn silk
  • 1.2 L of water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, trim any dark, dusty bits or debris from the ends of your dried corn silk. It’s best to use corn silk that has been thoroughly dried in a well-ventilated area. If your corn silk isn’t completely dry, you can lightly toast it in a pan to remove any remaining moisture.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s bring out the nutty fragrance of the corn silk. Heat a dry pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared corn silk and toast it, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Continue to toast until the corn silk turns golden brown and releases a pleasant, nutty aroma, similar to roasting barley for tea. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the corn silk is nicely toasted, prepare it for brewing. Place the toasted corn silk into a tea bag or a piece of cheesecloth. This makes it much easier to remove the solids after brewing. If you don’t have a tea bag, you can add the corn silk directly to the pot and strain it later through a fine-mesh sieve.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour 1.2 L of fresh water into a pot. Add the tea bag containing the corn silk (or the corn silk itself if not using a bag). Now, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Allow the water to come to a boil, letting the beneficial compounds from the corn silk infuse into the water.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the water reaches a rolling boil, reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 20 more minutes. Brewing on low heat allows the subtle, nutty flavor and aroma of the corn silk to fully develop, creating a deeper and more delicious tea. After 20 minutes, turn off the heat and remove the corn silk. Your flavorful corn silk tea is ready to be enjoyed warm or chilled.
