Deliciously Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don’t often eat store-bought snacks at home, but my children seem to enjoy homemade treats even more than the ones from the bakery. Because of this, I’ve been baking more often at home lately. This time, I decided to use up some leftover chocolate chips from making muffins and tried my hand at chocolate chip cookies. The delightful bursts of chocolate with every bite make these cookies incredibly delicious and a recipe I highly recommend! It’s a fantastic addition to any home baking repertoire.

Ingredients

  • 170g All-purpose flour
  • 110g Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 Large egg, room temperature
  • 80g Granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1g Salt
  • 1g Baking powder
  • 1g Baking soda
  • 3 handfuls Chocolate chips (adjust to your liking)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Before you begin, ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature. This means taking them out of the refrigerator about an hour beforehand. Properly softened butter will easily cream when mixed. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth and fluffy. Then, gradually add the 80g of granulated sugar (or brown sugar for a richer color and flavor) in two to three additions, beating well after each addition until the mixture is light and fluffy. If you prefer a deeper, caramel-like flavor and color in your cookies, using brown sugar is highly recommended.

Step 1

Step 2

Crack the room temperature egg into the bowl with the creamed butter and sugar mixture. Beat vigorously for a good amount of time, ensuring the egg is fully incorporated and the mixture emulsifies. Continue beating until the batter is smooth, cohesive, and holds together well. This step is crucial for achieving the right texture in your cookies.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to add the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, sift together the 170g of all-purpose flour, 1g of baking powder, and 1g of baking soda. Sifting helps to aerate the flour and prevent lumps, leading to a lighter cookie. Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet butter mixture. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can develop the gluten in the flour and make your cookies tough.

Step 3

Step 4

As you gently mix in the flour, add about 3 handfuls of chocolate chips to the dough. Don’t be shy with the chocolate chips if you love them – more is definitely merrier! Gently fold them into the dough until they are evenly distributed. The delightful pockets of melted chocolate are what make these cookies so irresistible.

Step 4

Step 5

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Use a spoon or an ice cream scoop to drop rounded portions of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie. Don’t worry too much about making them perfectly shaped; they will spread as they bake. For an extra chocolatey touch, press a few additional chocolate chips onto the tops of the cookie dough mounds before baking.

Step 5

Step 6

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 20-25 minutes. Oven temperatures can vary, so it’s best to start checking around the 20-minute mark. Look for the edges of the cookies to be golden brown and the centers to be set. If they seem a little underbaked, continue baking for a few more minutes. Once baked, let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies!
