Delicious Tuna Mayo Inari Sushi
How to Make Flavorful Inari Sushi with Tuna Mayo
A simple yet satisfying meal perfect for home cooking: learn how to make delicious Inari sushi. Instead of always topping with crab sticks, this recipe features a generous amount of tuna salad, offering a rich, savory flavor and a delightful crunchy texture. It’s a dish that perfectly balances taste and texture!
Ingredients
- Store-bought Inari sushi kits (fried tofu pouches, sushi vinegar seasoning, furikake)
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1 can tuna (drained)
- Mayonnaise (to taste)
- 1/4 cucumber
- 1/4 onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the filling for your Inari sushi. Finely julienne the cucumber and onion. If you want to reduce the onion’s pungency, especially for children, you can soak the julienned onion in cold water for a short while before draining it thoroughly. I personally enjoy the slight sharpness, so I used it as is.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced cucumber and onion. Add the entire can of tuna, making sure to drain the oil completely. Properly draining the oil is key to a clean and non-greasy flavor.
Step 3
Now, generously add mayonnaise to the bowl. There’s no strict measurement; add enough to help the ingredients bind together and create a creamy consistency. Taste as you go and add more mayonnaise if needed to achieve your desired flavor and texture.
Step 4
Your delicious tuna mayo filling is ready! Now, let’s assemble the Inari sushi using the store-bought kit. Gently squeeze out any excess liquid from the fried tofu pouches. In a separate bowl, mix the sushi rice with the included sushi vinegar seasoning and furikake until well combined. Be careful not to use rice that is too hot, as it might tear the tofu pouches. Fill each tofu pouch with the seasoned sushi rice. Finally, top generously with the prepared tuna mayo salad. A helpful tip: considering the seasoning in the tuna mayo and the sushi vinegar, it’s best to add about two-thirds of the sushi vinegar seasoning to the rice initially and then adjust to taste. This ensures the flavors meld beautifully with the tuna mayo topping. Enjoy your homemade Inari sushi!
