How to Make Stir-Fried Beef and Fish Cake: A Perfect Side Dish
This is a delicious side dish of stir-fried beef and fish cake, made using ingredients from the refrigerator. It’s a perfect way to clear out your pantry and create a satisfying meal.
Main Ingredients- 200g Beef (thinly sliced for stir-fry or steak cut recommended)
- 2 sheets of grilled fish cake (eomuk)
- 1/2 Onion
Seasoning- 0.5 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or honey)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- Sesame Seeds (to taste)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 0.5 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or honey)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- Sesame Seeds (to taste)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the beef. Use thinly sliced beef for stir-fry or steak cuts. Gently pat the beef with paper towels to remove excess blood. Then, cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
For the fish cake, I’m using grilled fish cake with holes. Feel free to use any fish cake you have on hand, whether it’s frozen or fresh. Grilled fish cake tends to be a bit healthier than fried varieties. Cut the fish cake into pieces similar in size to the beef.
Step 3
Prepare half an onion by slicing it thinly into strips. Sliced onions will blend well with the other ingredients when stir-fried.
Step 4
Get your pan ready for stir-frying and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Heating the pan sufficiently beforehand will prevent ingredients from sticking and ensure a delicious result.
Step 5
Once the pan is hot, add the sliced fish cake and onion. Stir-fry them together until the onion becomes translucent. At this point, turn off the heat and set the cooked fish cake and onion aside.
Step 6
Now, in the same pan, add the sliced beef and begin to stir-fry.
Step 7
While stir-frying the beef, season it with a pinch of black pepper. Pepper helps to remove any gamey odor and enhances the overall flavor.
Step 8
Continue to cook the beef until all traces of pinkness disappear and it is fully cooked. Once the beef is done, season it before mixing with the fish cake. Since fish cakes are already seasoned, seasoning the beef first ensures the overall dish is perfectly balanced. Add 0.5 Tbsp of oyster sauce.
Step 9
Next, add 2 Tbsp of soy sauce and stir-fry well to allow the seasoning to penetrate the beef. This step completes the delicious seasoning for the beef.
Step 10
Once the beef is seasoned and fully cooked, return the reserved fish cake and onion to the pan. Mix everything together and stir-fry gently. The savory soy sauce seasoning from the beef will naturally infuse into the fish cake and onion.
Step 11
Finally, add 1 Tbsp of oligodang (corn syrup or honey) to balance the saltiness and add a subtle sweetness. Stir once more to combine, and then turn off the heat immediately.
Step 12
With the heat off, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and quickly toss to combine.
Step 13
Generously sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra touch of flavor, and your delicious Stir-Fried Beef and Fish Cake is complete! It’s truly a simple refrigerator-cleaning dish, isn’t it?
Step 14
Enjoy your meal!
