Delicious Soupy Tteokbokki Recipe
Spicy and Savory Soupy Tteokbokki
Hello everyone! It’s BabSim, your source for hearty meals. Nowadays, tteokbokki is readily available in convenient packs, so I sometimes buy them. Today, I decided to easily whip up a delicious batch by adding fish cakes, fresh vegetables, and my favorite hard-boiled eggs from home. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients- 1 pack of store-bought Soupy Tteokbokki
- 350cc water
- 2 hard-boiled eggs (Maehbanseok eggs)
- A little bit of green onion, sliced diagonally
- 4 sheets of square fish cake, cut into bite-sized pieces
- A little bit of onion, thinly sliced
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour 350cc of water into a pot. Add the sauce packet, dried vegetable mix, and the red chili seasoning powder that comes with the soupy tteokbokki. Stirring them in initially will help prevent clumping and distribute the flavors evenly.
Step 2
Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium heat. You’ll start to smell that delicious aroma!
Step 3
Rinse the tteokbokki rice cakes under cold running water. This helps prevent them from sticking together and washes off excess starch, resulting in a chewier texture.
Step 4
Add the rinsed rice cakes to the boiling broth and cook for about 4 minutes. The goal is to cook them until they are soft and delightfully chewy.
Step 5
Cut the 4 sheets of square fish cake into triangular, bite-sized pieces. Thinly slice the onion and diagonally slice the green onion. Add the prepared fish cakes, onion, and green onion to the pot. Also, add the 2 pre-boiled hard-boiled eggs. Stir everything gently to combine.
Step 6
Since this is a ‘soupy’ tteokbokki, continue to simmer until the broth is slightly reduced and the ingredients are well-coated and tender. The flavors will deepen as the broth thickens. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, perhaps adding a touch more sauce if you prefer it saltier.
