How to Make Delightful Salad Udon at Home
I was so inspired by the incredible salad udon I had at a tonkatsu restaurant in Jeju that I decided to try recreating it at home using a store-bought dressing. While it might not be an exact replica, the result was absolutely delicious! This recipe offers a fantastic way to enjoy a refreshing and satisfying meal.
Ingredients- 2 servings of pre-cooked udon noodles
- 8 shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1/4 head of lettuce
- 100g sesame dressing (store-bought)
- 10g butter
- Herbs salt (for seasoning shrimp)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the peeled shrimp under running water to clean them thoroughly. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season them lightly with herb salt. Heat the butter in a frying pan over medium heat until melted. Add the seasoned shrimp and cook until they turn pink and are cooked through, about 1-2 minutes per side. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become tough.
Step 2
Once the shrimp are cooked, remove them from the pan and set aside on a plate. Now, it’s time to cook the udon noodles. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the udon noodle packages. Cook according to the package instructions, typically for about 2 minutes. Drain the noodles and immediately rinse them under cold running water to stop the cooking process and remove excess starch. This step ensures the noodles have a nice chewy texture. Drain them very well, ensuring all excess water is removed.
Step 3
Arrange the drained udon noodles attractively on a serving plate or in bowls. Wash the lettuce thoroughly and tear it into bite-sized pieces. Pile the fresh lettuce generously on top of the noodles. Finally, place the cooked shrimp artfully over the lettuce and noodles.
Step 4
The final touch! Drizzle the sesame dressing generously over the entire dish. The creamy, nutty flavor of the sesame dressing will beautifully tie all the components together. You can add a sprinkle of sesame seeds or chopped parsley for extra garnish and a touch of freshness. Enjoy your homemade salad udon!
