Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack of instant ramen
  • 1/2 large green onion
  • Fish cakes (as needed)
  • Rice cakes (tteokbokki tteok or tteokguk tteok, as needed)
  • 1-2 boiled eggs (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the ingredients. Wash the green onion and slice it diagonally about 1 cm thick. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm long. If using rice cakes and they are stuck together, rinse them briefly in water.

Step 1

Step 2

Pour 1.5 cups (approx. 300ml) of water into a pot. Add half of the ramen powder soup base and the entire dried vegetable packet, and bring it to a boil.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the water starts boiling, stir in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar for sweetness and 1 tablespoon of gochujang for a spicy kick to create the sauce. (The base recipe uses 1 Tbsp each, but if you’re adding rice cakes and fish cakes, the sauce might become a bit diluted. It’s recommended to add about an extra 1/2 Tbsp of gochujang, making it 1.5 Tbsp total, to ensure a good flavor.)

Step 3

Step 4

After the sauce ingredients are well dissolved, add the ramen noodles. Use chopsticks to gently separate the noodles as they cook, so they don’t stick together. Boil just until the noodles are softened.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the noodles start to soften, add the prepared rice cakes and fish cakes. Adding tteokguk tteok or frozen dumplings also makes it very delicious!

Step 5

Step 6

When the noodles, rice cakes, and fish cakes are cooked through and tender, add the sliced green onions and simmer for another minute or so. Let the green onion flavor infuse into the broth, then turn off the heat. See how easy it is to make delicious Rabokki?

Step 7
