Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re going to make a delicious Omurice today, which is perfect as a one-dish meal. It’s hearty and satisfying!
Step 2
First, let’s prepare the special sauce for our Omurice. In a pot, combine 2 cups of water, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and a pinch of pepper. Whisk everything together thoroughly while it simmers over low heat. This blend creates a wonderfully balanced sweet and tangy sauce.
Step 3
Next, prepare the egg crepe. Whisk eggs until smooth and cook them thinly in a lightly oiled pan until just set. Aim for a tender, delicate crepe to perfectly encase the rice. Set the cooked crepe aside.
Step 4
While the sauce is simmering, let’s stir-fry the filling ingredients. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup of chopped ham, 1/2 cup of diced onion, 1 king oyster mushroom (chopped), and 1/3 cup of corn kernels. Sauté until the vegetables are softened and fragrant. Season with a pinch of pepper. Remove the stir-fried mixture from the pan and set aside.
Step 5
Now, let’s assemble the Omurice! In a bowl, combine 1 bowl of warm rice with the stir-fried ham, onion, mushroom, and corn mixture. Season with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and mix well. Gently shape the rice mixture into a neat mound in a serving dish. Carefully drape the prepared egg crepe over the top of the rice mound. Finally, generously ladle the prepared sauce over the egg-covered rice. Your delicious homemade Omurice is ready to be enjoyed!
