Delicious Fish Cake Jang-Kalguksu Enhanced with Nongshim Spicy Jang-Kalguksu Base
How to Make Hearty Fish Cake Jang-Kalguksu Using Nongshim’s Spicy Jang-Kalguksu!
As the weather turns colder, don’t you crave a warm, comforting bowl of soup? When a chilly wind blows, I find myself longing for a spicy yet savory Jang-Kalguksu. Making it from scratch at home can be quite a task, but I recently discovered Nongshim’s ‘Spicy Jang-Kalguksu’ and was thrilled! While it’s perfectly delicious cooked straight from the package, I wondered if I could make it even better. Inspired by my current obsession with skewered fish cakes, I decided to create a ‘Fish Cake Jang-Kalguksu’ by adding them to the mix. This recipe elevates a simple instant noodle dish into a satisfying meal, perfect for a cozy day.
Ingredients- 1 packet Nongshim Spicy Jang-Kalguksu
- 2 sheets square fish cakes
- 1 pair wooden skewers
- 1 stalk green onion
- 1/4 onion
- Oyster mushrooms, as needed
- 2 shiitake mushrooms
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, neatly fold the square fish cakes and skewer them onto the wooden skewers to create fish cake ‘kebabs’. This preparation ensures the fish cakes cook evenly with the noodles and absorb the broth beautifully, adding a delightful texture and flavor.
Step 2
Prepare the green onion by slicing about 3/4 of it diagonally for cooking, and finely mincing the remaining 1/4 for garnish. For the shiitake mushrooms, trim the tough stems and brush off any dirt. You can score the caps with a knife for presentation or simply slice them into suitable thickness. Tear the oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces and thinly slice the onion.
Step 3
In a pot, add 500ml of water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Ensuring the water is thoroughly boiling is key for perfectly cooked noodles and a flavorful broth.
Step 4
Once the water is boiling vigorously, add all the ingredients at once: the Jang-Kalguksu noodles, the generous dried vegetable packet, the savory seafood soup base, the prepared fish cake skewers, the diagonally sliced green onions, the sliced onions, the torn oyster mushrooms, and the sliced shiitake mushrooms.
Step 5
To ensure the fish cake skewers cook evenly and are submerged, ladle some broth over any exposed parts. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes. The noodles, vegetables, and fish cakes will cook through, and the broth will become rich and flavorful.
Step 6
Turn off the heat. Now, add the ‘spicy aged paste’ (soup base) packet that comes with the Nongshim Jang-Kalguksu. Stir well until it’s completely dissolved and incorporated into the broth. This paste is what gives the Jang-Kalguksu its signature deep, spicy, and complex flavor.
Step 7
Ladle the delicious Jang-Kalguksu into a serving bowl. Garnish with the reserved minced green onions. Your hearty and flavorful Fish Cake Jang-Kalguksu is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve immediately and savor every spoonful.
