Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by making the bulgogi marinade. The ratio ‘1:1:4’ is super easy to remember! Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup as a base, the ratio is 1 part soy sauce, 1 part sugar, and 4 parts water. (For example: 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cup water).
Step 2
The second ingredient is sugar, which will provide the sweetness to the marinade.
Step 3
The third is water, helping all the ingredients meld together beautifully.
Step 4
Add 2 tablespoons of fragrant sesame oil and 1 tablespoon of garlic for flavor. Mix it all together gently – your delicious bulgogi marinade is ready! (I used measuring spoons for accuracy).
Step 5
Thinly slice the onion and carrot, and chop the green onions. Feel free to adjust the vegetable quantities to your liking.
Step 6
Now, it’s time to cook the bulgogi. Lightly pat the beef dry with paper towels to remove excess blood. Discard the marinade and place only the beef in a pan. Cook over high heat until most of the moisture has evaporated.
Step 7
Initially, you’ll notice moisture coming out from the meat.
Step 8
Continue stir-frying over medium-high heat, and you’ll see the moisture evaporate, leaving behind that delicious, slightly caramelized bulgogi.
Step 9
This dry-fried bulgogi is also known as ‘bakbakk bulgogi’ (crispy bulgogi). It stays neatly in the sandwich without excess sauce dripping out, making it perfect for sandwiches.
Step 10
Prepare your keto sandwich bread. You can use regular bread, but keto bread offers a healthier option.
Step 11
Lightly toast the bread in the oven. Warming the bread makes it wonderfully soft and inviting.
Step 12
Mix mayonnaise and ketchup in a 3:1 ratio to create a sauce. Spread this sauce evenly inside the bread. The tangy and sweet flavor complements the bulgogi beautifully.
Step 13
Layer the prepared romaine lettuce (or crisp iceberg lettuce), thinly sliced cucumber, and tomato slices onto the sauced bread.
Step 14
Generously pile on the delicious cooked bulgogi. The star of any sandwich is the filling!
Step 15
If you enjoy a little heat, spread a bit of sriracha sauce on one side of the bread. It adds a delightful spicy kick that awakens the palate.
Step 16
Place a slice of cheese on top of the bulgogi. When it melts, it will create a rich, cheesy layer that pairs wonderfully with the meat.
Step 17
For your husband, who might not like spicy food, you can skip the sriracha and just add cheese. Then, warm it briefly in the oven until the cheese is melted for a smooth, savory taste.
Step 18
Place the top slice of bread to complete the sandwich. Wrap it tightly with plastic wrap to hold everything together neatly.
Step 19
Once securely wrapped, cut the sandwich in half. Voilà! Your impressive bulgogi sandwich is ready to enjoy.
Step 20
This is the milder bulgogi sandwich, perfect for my husband who prefers less spice.
Step 21
And this is my keto bulgogi sandwich, featuring a delicious balance of spicy and savory bulgogi flavors. Enjoy making this delightful sandwich at home!
