Introducing a popular, family-favorite side dish: Braised Tofu in Soy Sauce. It’s simple yet makes for a wonderful meal. The savory and sweet flavor is a perfect match for rice!
Main Ingredients- 1 block Tofu (500g)
- 1/2 Onion
- 1cm thick Carrot
- 1 Green or Red Chili Pepper
- 1 handful Chives
Seasoning Ingredients- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Plum Extract (or honey)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Plum Extract (or honey)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Cut the tofu into about 1.5cm thick pieces. Heat a non-stick pan with a little oil over high heat and pan-fry the tofu until golden brown on both sides. This helps prevent the tofu from breaking and improves its texture. If there’s excess oil, gently dab it with a paper towel.
Step 2
Thinly julienne the onion and carrot. Finely chop the chili pepper. Arrange the julienned onion and carrot attractively over the golden-brown tofu.
Step 3
Evenly sprinkle the seasoning ingredients (2.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic, 1 Tbsp Plum Extract) over the tofu and vegetables. Stir and cook over high heat, gently tossing with a spatula or spoon to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 4
Flip and mix the tofu and vegetables to ensure they absorb the sauce evenly. If the sauce thickens too much, reduce the heat to medium. Taste and add a little more soy sauce if needed.
Step 5
Finally, add the chopped chili pepper and roughly chopped chives. Drizzle with the remaining 0.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce and 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for just a moment, then turn off the heat. Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for a delicious finish!
