- 1/2 white part of a leek
- Slightly less than 1/2 tsp salt
Seasoning Sauce Ingredients- 8 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 8 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. For the cooking water, use about 90% of the usual amount for your rice cooker. Do not discard the water used to rinse the rice; set it aside for cooking.
Step 2
Prepare to cook the rice in a pot. Pour the reserved rice water into the pot with the rinsed rice. Add slightly less than 1/2 teaspoon of salt and stir well to lightly season the water. This will provide a base flavor for your bean sprout rice.
Step 3
Add the washed bean sprouts to the pot, cover it with a lid, and turn the heat to high. Once it comes to a boil, cook for exactly 2 to 3 minutes. It is highly recommended to use a timer to ensure the bean sprouts don’t become too soft.
Step 4
Drain the cooked bean sprouts using a sieve and spread them out on a plate to cool slightly. This step is crucial for maintaining their crisp texture.
Step 5
Pour the water from the pot where the bean sprouts were cooked into your rice cooker. This flavorful water, infused with the essence of the bean sprouts, will make your rice even more delicious.
Step 6
Add the bean sprout-infused water to the rice cooker with the rice. Cook using the standard white rice setting. You’ll have perfectly fluffy rice ready soon.
Step 7
While the rice is cooking, prepare the seasoning sauce ingredients. Finely mince the white part of the leek. For this recipe, we’ll use only leek, but feel free to add other vegetables as you prefer.
Step 8
In a small bowl, combine 8 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes, 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Add the minced leek you prepared.
Step 9
Mix all the seasoning ingredients thoroughly with a spatula or spoon until well combined. Your delicious seasoning sauce for bean sprout rice is now ready!
Step 10
When your rice cooker signals that the rice is done, open the lid. The steaming rice will look incredibly appetizing.
Step 11
Transfer the freshly cooked rice to a large bowl. Generously top with the cooled, crisp bean sprouts. Gently mix the rice and bean sprouts with a spatula, being careful not to mash them. Ensure the bean sprouts are evenly distributed throughout the rice for a delightful bean sprout rice experience!
