Delicious and Versatile Braised Tofu Pouch (Yubu Jorim) Recipe
~~How to Make Yubu Jorim~~
I absolutely love tofu pouches! Braised tofu pouches are surprisingly versatile and great to have on hand. They can elevate many dishes with their savory and slightly sweet flavor. Enjoy making this easy and delicious recipe!
Ingredients- 130g frozen tofu pouches (thick, square ones are recommended!)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 50g water (about 1/4 cup)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 50g water (about 1/4 cup)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all your ingredients to make delicious braised tofu pouches. It’s best to thaw the frozen tofu pouches in advance!
Step 2
Gently separate the frozen tofu pouches with your hands. They should come apart easily due to their natural oiliness. Make sure to loosen any clumps so each piece is separated.
Step 3
Briefly blanch the separated tofu pouches in boiling water. This step helps to remove excess oil and achieve a softer texture. (Dip them in hot water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, then drain. However, you can also skip this step and cook them directly.)
Step 4
Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan. Lightly oiling the pan prevents the tofu pouches from sticking and ensures they cook evenly.
Step 5
Add the blanched (and lightly squeezed) tofu pouches to the pan. Stir-fry them over medium-low heat for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring they are evenly coated with oil. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 6
Pour in 2 Tbsp of soy sauce. Gently stir and cook the tofu pouches, allowing them to absorb the soy sauce.
Step 7
Add 2 Tbsp of sugar and continue to stir-fry. As the sugar dissolves, it will add a delicious sweetness to the tofu pouches.
Step 8
Finally, add 50g of water (about 1/4 cup). Simmering with water will make the tofu pouches tender and help them absorb the seasoning beautifully.
Step 9
Continue to cook over medium-low heat for about 2-3 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced to a glaze. Be careful not to overcook, as the tofu pouches can become tough. It’s best to turn off the heat while there’s still a little moisture left.
Step 10
Once done, let the delicious braised tofu pouches cool slightly. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. These versatile braised tofu pouches can be added to sushi rolls (yubuchobap), bibimbap, or as a topping for udon noodles to create even more flavorful and satisfying meals! Enjoy your cooking!
